Founded in 1942 by Mr. Chan Lai on Rua da Praia do Manduco, Veng Lei Laboratory originally sold ritual offerings such as joss paper, candles, and incense. As times changed, the high cost of fully handmade production led the industry to decline gradually in the 1980s. In 2020, third-generation operator Wong Keng Si revived the family business and expanded it into Veng Lei Laboratory, repositioning the brand around traditional craft, cultural preservation, and contemporary cultural and creative design. Through this transformation, the brand reinterprets Macao’s traditional incense-making industry and promotes cultural continuity.
Veng Lei Laboratory centers its innovation on the idea of “soothing the mind.” By transforming traditional ritual incense into soothing fragrance products, the brand carries forward the dedication of traditional artisans while adapting ritual items into cultural and creative products that better suit modern lifestyles. At the same time, it actively participates in exhibitions and cultural events, promoting the many facets of incense culture.
Veng Lei Laboratory is not only a bearer of Macao’s traditional incense-making heritage but also a demonstration of the possibilities of cultural innovation. Remaining faithful to tradition while exploring new methods, the brand takes pride in its Made in Macao identity and invites the public to witness the strength of Macao’s cultural creativity.
